Get At Me 2013

Who are all of the band members? And what do they do in the band?

Noah Smith-guitar, vocals
Jake Smith-bass, vocals
Matt Glanvill- guitar
Matt Lucken- drums

-What's the origin of your band name, Get At Me? Have you changed the band's name before?

We were trying to think of a name, and it was a pretty popular thing to say at the time, like "I have an 89% in this class, yeah, Get at me" so we thought it was cool. We get an awesome response from people whenever we tell them the name, so I guess it works. Hahahah

-What genre of music do you consider your work to be? Who are your major influences?

Probably Pop-Punk. We all kinda listen to different bands, but mainly bands like blink-182, Man Overboard, The Story so far, the wonder years are all huge influences.

-How old were you when you started this band?

We were 14. Freshmen in highschool.

-How long have you all known each other? How did you meet?

Jake and Noah are brothers so they've always known each other.  But they knew of Matt and that he played guitar for 4 months, than they asked him to start a band and we were all instantly best friends. We just went to school together. Hahaha

-When did you form your band? What inspired you to make music together?

It started 3 years ago when we were 14. We started to play music together because we all played instruments and didn't have any other friends to do anything else with.

-Do you have a record label? If so, what is it?

Nope, we're unsigned at the moment.

-Where have you performed? What are your favorite and least favorite venues? Do you have any upcoming shows?

We've played a few local venues around St. Louis  including, fubar, firebird and ciceros. My favorite to play is firebird, hands down. Im not too crazy about fubar though. We have an upcoming show in April, it's for our good friends in Home & Away. It's their album release show, so we'll be supporting them with that at ciceros.

-Which songs do you perform most frequently? Do you ever play any covers? Do you have a set play list for your shows?

We started off as a blink-182 cover band. So, that answers the covers question. Hahaha, but at the show In April we'll probably end up playing our whole ep, which will be released around that time.

-Who writes your songs? Is it a group effort?

It's definitely a group effort. It usually starts off as one guy comes in with or guitar part he likes and than we all sit in a circle and build off of each other. Lyrics are usually written individually and than we bring all of our lyrics and piece them together to make the song.

-What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs? Do you think these topics will change over time?

It's easy to write songs about girls and having pop in the genre name it's hard not too. But on our upcoming ep we tried to stay away from that and I think we did pretty well about that. Most of the songs on the ep are about battling out some sort of struggle we've been through.

-What are your rehearsals generally like? Do you have a set time each week in which you practice or are rehearsals more spontaneous?

We just practice whenever we can. All four of us have school and jobs to be at everyday so it makes it a little difficult.

-How has your music evolved since you first began playing music together?

I feel like our songs now are a lot more musically intelligent, if you will. We also started writing more meaningful lyrics. When we first started lyrics meant nothing to us, now it's one of our primarily focuses.

-What has been your biggest challenge as a band? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?

Our original drummer kind of quit in a weird way. After he left we all kinda fell apart and stopped working or even talking to each other. But obviously now it's all alright. We were drummerless for a good while.

-What's your ultimate direction for your band? Are you seeking fame and fortune?

Not really fame or fortune. we'd just like as many people to listen to our music as possible. If that means 100 people or 100,000 people.

-What advice do you have for people who want to form their own bands?

Don't try to record yourself. Go to a legit producer that knows what he's doing. Haha, We learned that pretty late.

-How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard your music before?

Fast, catchy songs with hopefully creative  lyrics to go along with.

-How can fans-to-be gain access to your music? Do you have a website with sample songs or a demo CD?

Our Facebook would be a good idea.

Facebook.com/getatmeMO
We have an okay two song single in there right now. When our ep drops, that's where you could listen to it, find updates, all that good stuff.

-Would you ever do an interview like this with us again?

I'd love to!

-Would you like to do more fun/funny questions in another interview?

Maybe a few more funny ones.

-Any last words?

Thanks for being interested in our music enough to do this interview!
